    Canon Names and Shames Infringing
Chinese Toner Sellers in Europe Via Amazon Platforms. (
    patent 3 809 207)

TOKYO, April 9, 2025 — Canon Inc. announced that it successfully used Amazon’s reporting tool, letters of inquiry, and information letters to have several toner cartridge listings removed from Amazon platforms in Germany, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, and the United Kingdom. The listings in question offered third-party laser printer toner cartridges that Canon believes infringed on its European Patent 3 809 207 (EP ’207), which covers a process cartridge designed to be detachably mounted to an image-forming apparatus.

Among the listings removed were those for toner cartridges from brands like Cool Toner, Eurotone, Sinoprint, and others. These products were sold by various third-party sellers, including Origin EU, ZHU HAI LICAI Electronic Technology Co., Ltd, and Hyggetech, to name a few. Canon’s actions specifically targeted toner cartridge models such as the W2200A, CRG 069, and CRG 069H, which were sold under different brand names on European Amazon marketplaces.

As of the announcement, the affected products are no longer available for purchase on the Amazon platforms in the countries where EP ’207 is enforced. This includes the marketplaces in Germany, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, all of which are part of the European Patent jurisdiction

Canon, which is known for its commitment to protecting its intellectual property, emphasized that it respects the rights of other creators while continuing to safeguard its own innovations. The company also expressed gratitude for Amazon’s support in protecting its intellectual property through the reporting tool, although they clarified that the tool itself does not constitute an official judgment of patent validity or infringement.

This action is part of Canon’s ongoing efforts to ensure consumers have access to genuine, high-quality products, and to combat the sale of counterfeit or infringing goods in the market.
