DLA Piper has successfully defended HP Inc. and its subsidiary, HPI Federal, LLC, in a high-profile lawsuit filed by government contractor Trident E&P, LLC. The case was initially filed in Pennsylvania but was transferred to the Northern District of California, where DLA Piper secured a full dismissal of the claims. The court also granted an anti-SLAPP motion in favor of HP, recognizing the company’s communications with a government agency as protected activity.
As a result, HP was awarded more than $1.75 million in attorney’s fees and costs, marking a major legal win and reinforcing protections for businesses against meritless lawsuits intended to chill free speech.
