HP Rejects Rumors of Moving China Manufacturing Supply Chain.
HP, one of the worldโs leading PC and printer makers, has denied the rumors that it is planning to transfer its manufacturing supply chain out of China, amid the ongoing trade tensions and sanctions between the US and China. The company said that it has no intention of leaving China, which is its largest market and a key source of innovation and talent.
The rumors started after a report by Nikkei Asia claimed that Dell, HPโs rival, had decided to stop sourcing the chips used in its products from China before the end of 2024, and urged its suppliers to do the same.ย The report also said that HP was another IT company contemplating a similar move.
However, HP refuted the report, saying that it was based on speculation and inaccurate information. HP said that it has a diversified and resilient global supply chain, and that it works with multiple suppliers across different regions to meet the needs of its customers.ย HP also said that it supports free and fair trade, and that it complies with all applicable laws and regulations in the countries where it operates.
HPโs statement was echoed by some of its suppliers, who said that they have not received any notice from HP to reduce their reliance on China.ย They also said that they have been working with HP to optimize their supply chain efficiency and flexibility, and that they have contingency plans in place to deal with any potential disruptions.
HP has been operating in China for more than 35 years, and has established a strong presence and reputation in the country. HP has more than 10,000 employees, 28 offices, and seven R&D centers in China.ย HP also has several joint ventures and partnerships with Chinese companies, such as Lenovo, Tsinghua Unigroup, and Tianjin Tianhai Investment.
HPโs sales in China have been growing steadily, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic and the competition from local brands. In the third quarter of 2023, HPโs revenue in China increased by 12% year-on-year, reaching $3.7 billion, accounting for 16% of its total revenue.ย HPโs PC market share in China also rose to 11.5%, ranking third behind Lenovo and Dell.
