The latest shipments report reveals a notable shift: for the first time in at least five years, April shipments exceeded those of March. May’s shipments continued this positive trend, rising from $7.35 billion to $7.43 billion. While May shipments often show varied results, this month’s increase is encouraging.

As previously mentioned, direct mail appears to be on the upswing, supported by a recent Keypoint Intelligence survey indicating that marketers are turning to print marketing to boost response rates, which may contribute to this growth. Additionally, the 2024 election year has driven up direct mail volumes, particularly with spring primaries in full swing.

Year-to-date shipments for 2024 now total $36.23 billion, closing in on 2023’s $37.03 billion despite still being slightly behind. With a typical June uptick (even in 2020), the outlook for the print industry this year looks promising.
