NEW LAWSUIT: HP Faces Class Action Over Unfulfilled Refund Promises. In a recent legal development, a class action lawsuit has been filed against HP Inc., alleging that the technology giant failed to honor its refund promises to customers. The lawsuit, initiated on May 8 in a San Francisco federal court, claims that HP breached its contractual obligations under the “Risk Free” rebate terms of its Care Pack service plan.
The plaintiff, Mary Pattison, represented by attorneys John P. Kristensen and Jarrett Ellzey, argues that HP did not administer the promised rebates to customers who had purchased its Care Packs. These service plans, which cover potential future service needs for HP computers and related equipment, assured customers of a full rebate if no service events occurred within a three-year period.
Despite generating over $53 billion in revenue in 2023, HP Inc., headquartered in Palo Alto, California, is accused of failing to provide the refunds as stipulated, leaving many customers dissatisfied and feeling misled.
This lawsuit underscores the growing scrutiny over companies’ fulfillment of warranty and rebate promises, and it could set a precedent for how technology firms manage their service agreements and customer expectations.
