Ink Jet MFP Shipments Grew 52 Percent from 2003 to
2004

The consumer printer market experienced solid growth in 2004, with
worldwide shipments of all consumer printers increasing from 87 million units in
2003 to 99 million units in 2004. Looking at shipments by
printer segment shows that there were some major changes in certain market
segments between 2003 and 2004. Some of these, such as the growth of the ink jet
MFP segment, were anticipated, while others, such as the growth of the personal
monochrome laser printer segment, were more surprising.
Worldwide shipments of ink jet MFPs grew
from 23 million units in 2003 to 35 million units in 2004, a 52 percent
increase, a higher growth rate than in any other consumer printer segment. Much
of this growth came at the expense of single-function ink jet printers, which
actually saw worldwide shipments decline from 52 million units in 2003 to 49
million units in 2004.
