Canon Says New Printer Tech is Revolutionary
The
Pixma MX7600 all-in-one printer introduces a new ink technology that
lets you print vibrant photos and graphics on plain copier paper,
according to Canon.
Canon says its newest all-in-one , the Pixma
MX7600 Office All-In-One, is not just another printer, but one that
introduces a revolutionary print technology. More precisely, it brings
a new ink technology to the small office, combining Canon pigment inks
that are already available in some more expensive Canon models with a
new twist—for Canon at least—for printing on plain paper.
The
new twist relies on a clear ink that coats the entire page, effectively
turning even the cheapest copy paper into a coated paper. According to
Canon, the undercoat lets you print even full-page graphics and photos
without the paper curling or wrinkling. If true, this is a particularly
welcome improvement for Canon, since full-page graphics printed on
Canon ink jet printers have tended to make inexpensive papers curl.Even
better, according to Canon, because the undercoat prevents the ink from
being absorbed into the paper, edges for text and line graphics are
crisper than ink jets normally offer, and colors are more vibrant than
they would otherwise be. The final result, according to Canon once
again, is graphics and photos on the cheapest copier paper which rival
the quality of output on high-quality photo matte paper.
The
printer itself offers a full set of AIO features and then some,
including a built-in network connector. It prints and scans over a
network as well as over a USB connection, works as a standalone copier
and fax machine, and can fax from a PC.Like most Canon AIOs and
printers, the MX7600 duplexes (prints on both sides of the page).
Unlike most—and unlike most of the competition—it also has a duplexing
automatic document feeder (ADF) so it can scan and copy duplex pages
automatically, and can copy both simplex and duplex originals to your
choice of simplex or duplex copies. Other useful touches include
instant-on scanning, with little to no warm-up time, and the ability to
scan and print simultaneously while copying, so one page can print even
as later pages are going through the scanner. The MX7600 will be
available in early April for $399 direct.
