FRANKFURT,
GERMANY — (FEB 2007) – Katun Corporation, the world’s leading
alternative supplier to the office equipment industry, affirms its
ongoing commitment to environmentally responsible business by
announcing expansion of its Core Return Program scheduled for Spring
2007. Katun’s expanded take-back policy will cover drum cartridges,
toner cartridges and fuser units – extending Katun’s high level of
service and support offerings, while ensuring the utmost attention to
sound ecological business principles.Katun pioneered worldwide return
programs over 20 years ago, establishing strict health and safety
criteria for Katun products and facilities, well in advance of current
environmental regulations in the industry.”Do the right thing” is one
of Katun’s ethical principles that also addresses our relationships
with customers, suppliers, and vendors. It also applies to our local
and global communities, especially in the safety of our products and
how we treat the environment,” states Karl Cerny, senior vice president
& general manager of Katun’s EAME (Europe/Africa/Middle East)
business unit. “Katun is committed to ongoing innovations that respect
the environment, while delivering solutions that provide the maximum
level of quality and performance to customers.”Katun has chosen to be a
trendsetter in the office equipment sector, adopting European
environmental directives policies that competitors may avoid or ignore.
For example, Katun is fully compliant with European Directive
2002/95/EC (RoHS).When Katun voluntarily assessed its range of product
offerings, only two non-compliant parts were discovered, and they are
no longer being sold. Katun’s policy is that it is in the best interest
of its customers to proactively ensure that all of its products meet
RoHS requirements.Consumables and materials used for the
copying and printing process, such as toner cartridges, are not
classified as dangerous substances. Currently there is no law in Europe
that requires suppliers to take back these materials. However, Katun
encourages customers to return used remanufacturable cartridges and has
established a buy-back program. Katun’s quality-driven cartridge return
program delivers added customer service, while effectively reducing the
amount of waste sent to European landfills.Katun’s commitment to
quality ensures top product performance and efficient operation,
eliminating unnecessary waste and defective product returns. Katun’s
Research and Development testing facility is at the very core of the
company’s Performance brand commitment to provide customers with
OEM-equivalent products. Katun’s team of over 100 chemists, engineers,
technical operators, and other specialists worldwide thoroughly test
Katun products against the equivalent OEM product using a series of
detailed scientific tests. Select Katun toner cartridges have been
yield-tested according to ISO standards and each has demonstrated
yields equal to or better than the stated yields of both OEM and
aftermarket competitors. All Katun Performance toner products have been
tested to Katun’s own standards – which are even more stringent than
ISO standards – and have proven to provide OEM-equivalent or better
yields as well.Presently Katun is in the application process to receive
special ecological certifications for its toner cartridges in Germany
and in Scandinavia. These international standards require products to
meet stringent environmental criteria based on manufacturing, no use of
hazardous materials, packaging and emissions, among others. -
