Toshiba, Brother, Lexmark, and Kodak JoinTsunami Relief Effort
Toshiba Corporation has also announced that they would express their condolences to the victims of devastating earthquake and tidal waves that hit Indonesia and neighboring countries with a 22 million yen donation in support of ongoing relief efforts.
Toshiba will donate 10 million yen to the country of Indonesia and 12 million yen in total to the countries of Thailand, Malaysia, India and Sri Lanka through the embassy of respective countries in Japan. In addition to the donation from Toshiba’s headquarters office in Tokyo, overseas subsidiaries in the region plan to provide immediate assistance in the form of food, clothing and other goods needed for the emergency relief.
Brother has announced that it will donate a total of 30 million yen (US$300,000) to the Red Cross to help with the relief efforts following the disaster caused by the earthquake off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, and the resulting tsunamis devastation in neighboring countries.
Lexmark International, Inc. has announced a program to match employee contributions toward disaster relief efforts in areas of Asia hit by tsunamis in the Indian Ocean.
Lexmark will make a special contribution to the Red Cross International Response Fund to match contributions made by employees worldwide to qualified relief organizations. In addition, Lexmark will make a separate corporate gift of $50,000 to the Red Cross International Response Fund in support of relief efforts.
“Our thoughts are with those in the region as they cope with enormous loss and begin to rebuild for the future,” said Paul J. Curlander, Lexmark chairman and chief executive officer.
Lexmark serves customers worldwide, including the Asia Pacific region. Lexmark employees and facilities in the region were unharmed.
Kodak employees worldwide have acted to provide support to survivors and recovery efforts in regions devastated by the recent earthquake and tsunami in Southeast Asia, making financial contributions to relief organizations.
To reinforce their efforts, Eastman Kodak Company announced contributions of approximately $1.5 million in cash, services, and materials. Kodak digital imaging technologies will be employed in diagnostic services for injured survivors, and to help families attempt to locate missing loved ones from the December 26 disaster.
Worldwide, Kodak’s disaster relief support includes:
A $1,000,000 corporate donation from Kodak to the American Red Cross’ International Response Fund.
Local donations totaling $50,000 (USD) from Kodak houses in Southeast Asia to regional relief efforts.
Supplies and equipment from Kodak Health Imaging provided to relief centers in affected areas to help diagnose survivors’ injuries.
Customer and consumer support from Kodak Digital & Film Imaging Systems.
Kodak will use imaging solutions and services to support the identification of those persons lost and missing from the disaster. In addition, some Kodak customers experienced significant property loss and damage to business operations. Support will be provided in the rebuilding of stores and resumption of operations.
The contributions from Health Imaging and Digital & Film Imaging Systems are valued in excess of $500,000.
“Many employees have already donated either cash or materials such as clothing, food and other essentials,” said Karen Smith-Pilkington, chairman, Greater Asia Region, and a Kodak senior vice president. “Kodak India, for example, contributed to the Prime Minister’s relief fund, and voluntary contributions from Kodak India employees are being coordinated and donated to the Tsunami Relief Fund.”
