OfficeMax Signs Three-Year Agreement with Xerox to Provide Better Quality Printing and Custom Services
    ROCHESTER,
    N.Y., and NAPERVILLE, Ill.–Jan. 2007– OfficeMax has signed a
three-year agreement with Xerox Corporation to complete the rollout of
nearly 3,000 Xerox printers and multifunction systems to approximately
900 retail stores nationwide.OfficeMax is completing the replacement of
a wide range of color and black-and-white production and office
printing systems both behind the counter and for walk-up use. The
agreement makes Xerox the primary equipment vendor for OfficeMax
ImPress, OfficeMax’s new identity for print and document services
operation that serves businesses and consumers through direct sales,
online sales and inside all OfficeMax retail locations.By the end of
January, OfficeMax will have upgraded all of its self-serve copiers in
OfficeMax ImPress Centers to Xerox WorkCentre(R) Pro 245 multifunction
systems, which can copy, print, scan and fax. The company is laying the
groundwork for new services for its customers. OfficeMax chose this
model because of the recently announced Xerox Extensible Interface
Platform, which enables independent software vendors and partners to
develop customized programs for the systems’ display panel, or
touch-screen.”The Xerox multifunction systems, combined with the
Extensible Interface Platform, will help us meet the specific needs of
our customers,” said Brian Norris, senior vice president of OfficeMax
ImPress. “We will make it quicker and easier for people to create
powerful documents that will truly impress. We’ll also offer them more
services and value through a customized display panel that could, for
example, allow people to view and print current coupons. The
    possibilities are virtually endless.”

Bringing Higher Quality Printing to All Customers
    In
addition to the technology for its new OfficeMax ImPress operations,
OfficeMax is expanding its fleet of high-end production equipment
designed to better serve its large customers. These systems have the
power and speed to produce complex jobs such as training manuals,
booklets and brochures. The Xerox Nuvera 120 digital copier/printer can
scan both sides of a document in a single pass at up to 120 ppm. The
    Xerox 4590 copier/printer and Xerox 4110 copier/printer provide image
quality of 2400 x 2400 dpi with scanning speeds of up to 100
double-sided pages per minute. They print and copy at up to 90 and 110
ppm, respectively. The Xerox DocuColor 250 copier/printer will serve as
the main color production system in each store. Printing in color at up
to 50 pages per minute at true 2400 x 2400 dpi, these systems are
designed to give OfficeMax customers the best digital color quality
available in retail today. They’re being integrated into OfficeMax’s
existing digital network, allowing customers to submit their print jobs
from their desktops to any OfficeMax ImPress location.By the end of
January, OfficeMax will complete installation of Xerox office color
multifunction printers and digital copiers for self-service in all
retail stores. Xerox is installing the WorkCentre Pro C2636 for walk-up
use at all OfficeMax locations. This model combines color printing,
copying, scanning and faxing into one easy-to-use system. With speeds
of 36 pages per minute in black-and-white and 26 ppm color, it can
quickly process and print large files such as color presentations,
spreadsheets, photo-filled newsletters, promotional fliers and more.
