Xerox is victim of activists’ hoax
A
consortium of environmental groups and companies that includes Xerox
Corp. was the victim this week of a prank by environmental activists
A
false press release sent out by environmental activist organization
Rising Tide claimed that the U.S. Climate Action Partnership members
had set new goals pledging to cut their greenhouse gas emissions by 90
percent by 2050. In fact no such new goals had been set.The partnership
is a lobbying group that includes such members as Xerox, Dow Chemical
Co. and the Nature Conservancy.According to Rising Tide, a number of
media outlets and blogs reported on the new greenhouse gas goals as
fact. The point of the press release, according to Rising Tide, was to
embarrass the members of the partnership for “the lack of initiative
from corporations on reducing fossil fuel use.”
