Chinese toner manufacturer iAICON has stirred controversy by launching non-authorized clone toner cartridges for Lexmark’s popular MS/MX321, MS/MX421, MS/MX521, and MS/MX621 printers. Marketed as cost-effective alternatives, the cartridges come with smart chips for full printer compatibility — but they’re not approved by Lexmark.

The move raises legal and ethical questions, as Lexmark is known for aggressively defending its intellectual property. iAICON’s release could prompt lawsuits and reignite the OEM vs. aftermarket battle over printer consumables. Is this a disruptive innovation or just another IP fight waiting to happen?
