Today’s court ruling over excess surplus toner gives HP another small win Vs Digital Revolution B.V (123inkt) in the Netherlands, but the €500M behemoth is still laughing all the way to the bank.

Maybe it was worth it for HP’s European lawyers to make a little cash, but for HP dealing with this giant European reseller has been an ongoing nightmare for many, many years. 123inkt has beaten HP in numerous court rulings in the past and not long ago they even tried to help HP by warning them of rampant well-made counterfeit HP toner circulating throughout Europe with the help of Tonernews.com. Let’s not forget that 123inkt was just trying to resell excess surplus HP toner that they collected through their own recycling, and since the boxes where in bad shape they just tried to resell these toners in a newer cleaner packaging, that’s all.

If you can’t beat them, join them.
This lawsuit was not a big deal to begin with, but lawyers will be lawyers, by making HP defend their product that are not even 1% of 123inkt toner business. In a perfect pro-environmental world maybe, HP should give or sell these toner boxes to 123inkt so these products can be resold correctly, or maybe HP should just buy 123inkt for the asking price of €500M, that way they can control a big part of that regions toner business.
