Patent Lawsuit: Katun Rejects Canon’s “Counterfeit” Toner Allegations.
Canon, the prominent Japanese manufacturer, has recently initiated legal action against GPI and Katun at the Unified Patent Court in Düsseldorf, alleging infringement of its European patent 3 686 683 B1 (“EP’683”). In response to these allegations, Katun has issued a firm statement refuting Canon’s claims.

“Katun is confident that the products we supply for use in Canon applications do not violate the patent in question,” affirmed William McIntyre, General Counsel of Katun Corporation. He further emphasized Katun’s commitment to addressing the issue through robust legal channels. “For over 45 years, Katun has been a leader in the compatible hardcopy supplies industry, providing high-quality products that comply with intellectual property regulations.”

McIntyre highlighted Katun’s ongoing efforts in maintaining IP compliance, citing substantial investments in processes, procedures, and specialized expertise. “In collaboration with our parent company, GPI in Taiwan, we remain dedicated to resolving this matter with Canon,” he concluded.

This statement reflects Katun’s proactive stance in defending its position against Canon’s allegations, underscoring the company’s longstanding commitment to legal and regulatory compliance in its product offerings.
