Historians Unveil a Restored IBM Printer From The Early 60s
IBM printer gets new life
By WBNG News.Binghamton (WBNG Binghamton) A piece of Binghamton history was brought back to life on Saturday. Historians unveiled a restored IBM printer from the early 60s at Tech Works on Water Street.
The device could print at least 1,100 lines per minute — which was impressive for the time. Even though the printer is more than a half century old, it still works.
"When you're working on advanced technology projects, you can almost always see many reasons why it's going to be a failure,” guest speaker Dr. Emerson Pugh, an author and former corporate executive at IBM said. “And, if you're going to be successful, you have to somehow or another overcome those and keep looking at the parts of the problem you can solve today with the faith that you might be able to solve the others tomorrow."
Volunteers from IBM, Lockheed Martin and engineering seniors from the Watson School of Engineering at Binghamton University have been working on the project for two years.
Along with the printer, volunteers were able to recreate a 1960s office scene.
